I am a Chicago artist with a studio and gallery in the Flat Iron Arts Building, located in the Wicker Park/Bucktown neighborhood. For the past 14 years I have been an active artist exploring the use of color, light and line to create a sense of movement and mystery. I believe in combining bold colors with gesture and line to capture a childlike expression of freedom. As a colorist, I search for images where I can leverage the use of color, light and line.
The horse has a prominent place in my art. I grew up around horses and have always admired their strength, beauty and grace. There was a stable of pony ponies next door and my family owned horses. I earned my riding time in the old fashioned way, working from mucking out stalls to caring for the tack room.
Later my interest was renewed, when I spent time at the Arlington Park Racetrack. The beauty, strength and color of the horses and racing piqued my imagination.
My approach mixes many styles, from classical to abstract. I use a variety of tools and methods; a final piece of mine may employ several types of material, including oils, ink, acrylics, pastels, glass, paper, canvas and wood panels.
My goal is simple: to make good art that people enjoy as much as I enjoy creating it.
While I have studied at Lehigh University, the Indianapolis Art Center and The School at the Art Institute of Chicago, I believe real knowledge comes from passionate study of the greats, from ancient masters to modern pioneers. With ready access to major museums, I can study the works of great artists such as Turner, Monet, Matisse, Picasso and Pollack. Why not stand on the shoulders of giants?
Along with self-produced exhibitions, I have participated in juried art shows and worked on special, commissioned pieces.
